Is it going to happen?

So my senior class president just failed at her most important job!! We did not have a 10 year reunion this year. Will we have one at all? I'm not sure if I'd go anyway as I still keep up with the people I'd probably talk to at the reunion. Good news is that my friend Kari has just contacted a couple people (good friends from school) to see if they want to get together. I kinda wanted to plan something since I'm the only one not busy with kids, but she beat me to the punch! Anyway, I'm really excited to see my old friends and their kiddos!

Um, ouch?

I signed up for a running group with people at my office. What was I thinking?? I meet with them twice a week downtown at 5:45am and then Saturdays early mornings.

So my first run in I don't know, 8 years, was not really a run. It was a jog, walk, jog, walk and eventually stagger. I think I was exhausted, but I haven't done that in so long that I don't really know what it's like to be tired from running. Is that ridiculous? I was asked if I was taking deep breaths or if they were shallow. All I knew is that I was breathing differently from usual and my heart rate was up. At least I knew I was having a work out.

I was with two ladies from my office. One claims she is a slow runner and the other said she was slow so we thought we'd be great together. Well, the claimer was dead wrong. She could hang with the big girls in our beginner group. The other girl was slow, but she kept a steady pace (something I have no idea how to do). Overall, we did well together. I was reassured that I was doing a great job. I definitely appreciated that.

When we began our run, our warm-up was supposed to be a mile. A MILE. As a warm-up! For beginners! Remember when I said that I hadn't run in almost 10 years. Even then it was so sporadic that I would hardly call it running. Anyway, we ran toward the Lamar bridge - the half mile point and turned around. Well, ok, not really. We ran and ran and ran. There wasn't a single other person in our running group that was coming back in our direction since we passed a certain bridge (that I thought was our turning point). One of the ladies I was running with came to this class earlier this week and she thought we had to keep running. It turned out that the bridge I thought we were supposed to turn around at wasn't the correct bridge - it was right before that. We thought that the half mile mark seemed too close so we kept running!!!

I did alright for my first run. The faster lady in our group was very helpful to me. She kept making sure that I was alright and kept motivating me to continue running as opposed to walking quickly. In the end, I ended up doing just over 3 miles for my first time running! That's a 5k which is what I was there to train for! I think I did it in about 35-40 minutes!!!

Today I feel like utter crap, though. I am having the most difficult time moving around. I can be standing still and almost fall over because my muscles are trying to give out on me! I've even had to make several attempts to get into our truck! I feel like such an old lady right now ;)

Looking forward to the next run...

What Cody did at his Florida Conference...

A couple weeks ago, Cody was gone for a couple of days to man a booth and be a presenter about non-destructive testing.  Knowing Cody like we all do, he can't sit still.  He has to go exploring.  While exploring, he visited the beach and took these pictures...

Looks stormy, but it wasn't.

Cody's Corona picture.

Cody was thinking about me while he was there.

He also brought back some pretty sand dollars and conch shells!  When we have our beach house, we'll be able to display them.

alone at work

I'm alone today at the front desk. It's kinda weird 'cause I'm used to Joe talking to somebody. He shares the front desk responsibilities with me as there are many for this office of 160 and the thousands of KW employees across the US who at any moment will call in. I also kind of like it! I feel like I have something to prove today, like I can handle whatever is thrown at me (and I know something will be thrown!) There is still alot for me to remember to do, like check the calendars for the conference rooms to make sure they are set up appropriately for whatever meetings may be scheduled. Coincidentally - I need to go set up a bunch of chairs...
